| 520 | |aThis report presents the results of an audit of software acquisition and maintenance within the Department of National Defence (DND). The primary audit focus was on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software and contracts for software-related professional services. In fiscal year 2003/04, the Department spent $38M to acquire software licences and $40M for software maintenance. In addition, $41M was expended on related professional services. These figures are, in some measure, affected by a major alleged fraud which significantly inflated the costs to the Department. However, it remains that the costs of software development, licenses and maintenance will be substantial for a large, diverse organization. |
