"Economic growth in Northern Ontario is slow relative to the rest of Ontario and Canada as a whole. The region’s economy has historically been concentrated in natural resource sectors, driving a need for economic diversification and the transition to a knowledge economy. However, challenges include stagnating population growth, lower levels of education, as well as limited municipal resources available to invest in economic growth.
