NRCan operates the Canadian Space Weather Forecast Centre and conducts research into space weather effects on satellites, power systems, pipelines, radio communications and GNSS positioning to help Canadian industry understand and mitigate the effects of space weather. This document provides an overview of space weather impacts on geostationary satellites, and furnishes guidelines in the utilization of space weather nowcasts and forecasts as well as in engineering designs to alleviate such impacts. As modern society is increasingly dependent on satellite communication, the availability of technical guidelines to mitigate the impact of space weather on geostationary satellites is relevant to Canada's well-being. |
