520 |a"This species occupies a small proportion of exposed, weathered limestone surfaces in southernmost Ontario on the Niagara Peninsula and on Pelee Island. It is a small pioneer species with poor competitive ability. The highly restricted potential habitat of the species falls within an intensively populated and developed region and is generally subject toongoing threats (quarrying, recreational use, air pollution, climate change). It has been extirpated from Middle Island due to the effects of Double-crested Cormorant. However, it has persisted in some natural areas for over 100 years and the probability that the species risks extinction in the near future is believed to be low"--Reason for designation, p. iii.
