Fe and Mg isotope coupled with Fe oxidation state investigations at the Bong uranium deposit, Thelon Basin, Canada / [by] E.G. Potter ... [et al.].: M183-2/7662E-PDF
The Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI-4) is a collaborative federal geoscience program that provides industry with the next generation of geoscience knowledge and innovative techniques to better detect buried mineral deposits, thereby reducing some of the risks of exploration. This open file report summarizes a new potential exploration vector that also provides insights on the ore deposit model through iron and magnesium isotope signatures and shifts in iron oxidation states (Fe2+ vs. Fe3+) at the Bong uranium deposit. The preliminary results of this study successfully delineate the ore zones through significant isotopic shifts coupled with changes Fe2+/Fe3+ ratios in the ore zones. The signatures reflect processes that mobilized Fe2+ while enriching the fluids in the lighter isotopes of iron and magnesium.
