520 |aHealth Canada launched the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) in 1994. As one of the initiatives identified in Creating Opportunity (“Red Book I”), the CPNP was designed to provide funding for communities across the country to initiate or expand prenatal programs for pregnant women. Since that time, the CPNP funding process has been administered through Health Canada. The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) of Health Canada manages projects for First Nations women living on reserve and Inuit women in some northern communities (the First Nations and Inuit Component, or FNIC), while the Population and Public Health Branch (PPHB) manages all others. ...
