Horizontal evaluation of the Genomics Research and Development Initiative : final report.: H14-183/2007E-PDF
In March 1998, the National Biotechnology Advisory Committee (NBAC) released a report recommending ways to position Canada as a leading global player in biotechnology by the year 2005. During the same period, the National Research Council (NRC) and the Medical Research Council (now the Canadian Institutes of Health Research) held discussions with stakeholders as part of the Canadian Biotechnology consultations. Genome research was clearly identified as an important priority for Canadian biotechnology research and development (R&D). The NBAC recommended that a top priority be placed on several actions, including political championship and increased funding to Canada's genome program. The February 1999 Budget provided $55 million in funding for genomics R&D in six departments and agencies under the Canadian Biotechnology Strategy (CBS). ...
