"This publication presents the National GERD from 1963 to 1989 as well as the Regional GERD from 1979 to 1987. GERD, up until 1985 inctudes R&D expenditures in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE) only. Beginning in 1985, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) activities are also inctuded in GERD. An additional series of tables showing R&D expenditures at the national level in either science may be obtained from the Science, Technology and Capital Stock Division. For those using régional data, tables showing NSE data only for 1985, 1986 and 1987 are also available on request." --- Technical notes, p.5.
