"This publication presents the National GERD from 1963 to 1995 as well as the Provincial GERD from 1979 to 1993. Up until 1985, GERD included R&D expenditures in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE) only. Beginning in 1985, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) activities are also included in GERD. An additional series of tables showing R&D expenditures at the national level in either science may be obtained from the Services, Science and Technology Division. For those using provincial data, tables showing NSE data only for the years 1985 to 1993 are also available on request." -- Technical Notes, p. 5.
