"Health Canada is the federal department responsible for helping the people of Canada maintain and improve their health. There are a wide range of activities conducted throughout the department in support of its mandate which require the use of body weights that are representative of the Canadian population in general. The Task Forceon Scientific Risk Assessment (TFSRA) initiated this project to determine which body weights and associated age groups were currently being used by the various groups within the department, in the course of conducting human health risk assessments (HHRAs) as part of their respective mandated work"--Background, p. 1.
