520 |a“As part of its responsibilities under the Federal Family Violence Initiatives, CMHC has undertaken an evaluation of the Project Haven Program. Case studies of thirteen Project Haven shelters were carried out between May and July, 1993. The purpose of the case studies was to provide qualitative, in-depth information on the structure and functioning of shelters, community needs regarding services for family violence, community impacts of the shelters, and the shelters' service model. Seven Aboriginal and six non-Aboriginal shelters were studied, and two separate reports were prepared. This report focuses primarily on non-Aboriginal shelters and communities in rural settings. All of the shelters studied shared a common goal to provide shelter and services to women and children who were victims of family violence. At the same time, notable differences were discovered in approach and philosophy"--Executive summary, p. i-ii.
