520 | |a"The Task Force on Sources of Business Information was created as a result of the growing demands for improved quality and detail in Statistics Canada's various business statistics programs. Our users - be they federal departments such as Finance, Industry, Agriculture or Transportation, provincial focal points and government departments, businesses, other organizations and private individuals - are raising their expectations about the level of regional, industrial and commodity detail we can provide and the associated statistical quality. In this regard, divisions have for many years depended on a variety of supplementary sources of information for use in confronting and verifying the reasonableness of survey results. Sources such as Moody's Investors' Service, the Bank of Canada Review, Grain World Markets and Trade, provincial public accounts, the Financial Post, CCH, corporate annual reports and a wide variety of others have proven invaluable to Statistics Canada's analysts, subject matter specialists and business profilers. The general purpose of the task force was to increase awareness and to encourage sharing of the broad range of business information sources already available within divisions, and to identify any important gaps or areas of duplication"--p. 1. |
