"In 2006, the last census year for which data are currently available, approximately 2.8 million women resided in rural Canada, while another 176,000 women resided in remote areas. This represents approximately 18% of the total female population in Canada, and approximately 50% of the total rural and remote population"--Demographic Profile, p. 2.
