520 | 0 |a"A Census of Population, Agriculture and Fisheries was taken by the Newfoundland Government in 1945. At the request of Newfoundland, the tabulation and publication of the results of this census have been carried out by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. Volume 1 is the first of two volumes containing the final census figures, and is divided in to three main parts. Part I presents population statistics classified by such subjects as sex, age, marital status, religion, birthplace, ethnic origin, citizenship, years of schooling, literacy and migration. Part II deals with the gainfully occupied and wage-earner population 14 years of age and over, while Part III presents information relating to dwellings, households and families. .. The second of two volumes ... consists of two parts: Part I covers Agriculture, and gives data by Census District and settlement on thenumber cultivating land; the condition of land; area, production, and sales of crops; farm machinery and equipment; live stock and products; and a number of historical tables. Part II covers Fisheries and gives final figures by Census District and settlement on fishing rooms and gear, and the number and tonnage of fishing boats and vessels. Newfoundland became a province of Canada on March 31, 1949, and will consequently be included in the Census of Canada which will be taken in 1951"--Pref., v.1-2. |
