"The Physicians' Pocket Reference to the "International List of Causes of Death" has been prepared for the purpose of assisting the medical practitioners of Canada to complete the "Medical Certificate of Death" in accordance with statistical requirements. Almost every country collecting mortality statistics follows the classification known as the "International List of Causes of Death", either in its detailed, intermediate or abridged form. The detailed list presented in this Pocket Reference has been adapted for use in Canada and is in accordance with the Fifth Decennial Revision recommended by the International Commission for the classification of Diseases and Causes of Death. The International Commission met at Paris in October, 1938, at the invitation of the Government of France"--Introd.
