"The principal series of publications of the Geological Survey, consists of volumes issued under the name of Reports of Progress, from 1843 to 1882-84, and continued under the name of Annual Reports (New Series) from 1885. Since 1885, after the close of each calendar year, a Summary Report by the Director has also been issued separately. All the above mentioned reports, with the accompanying maps, as also the Geology of Canada (1863) and the Geological Map of Canada (1866), are enumerated chronologically in the first portion of the subjoined list. Beginning on page 36, is a list of maps issued by the Survey, and on succeeding pages the Palaeontological, Botanical and other publications are enumerated in their respective classes. With these are included also a number of separate publications from scientific journals, which are either the work of members of the staff or treat of collections or specimens in the Museum"--p. [7]
