Nicotye and her family / drawings and story Nicotye Jamassee ; Eskimo syllabics Rachel Erkloo.: R44-18/1965E-PDF
"Nicotye and Her Family" is a book written and illustrated by an Eskimo girl in a northern school. Based on environmental experiences, the book evolved in a classroom situation. This book grew page by page as pupils discussed life and activities in the community. After the vocabulary had been used orally, the pupils then wrote their stories and did appropriate illustrations. The pictures showed the pupils' comprehension of the stories they had written. This approach was a channel for the natural integration of oral and written language, reading, spelling, and penmanship with art and social studies."--Foreword.
