"The data of respondents with any of the twelve possible financial years ending between April (say) of year i and March of year i+1 are assigned to year i; and for the variable considered, the annual value yi is ruled to be the sum of all the data pertaining to twelve financial years assigned to year i. This note examines the effect of such a scheme on the trend-cycle and the seasonal components of series"--Introduction, p. 1.
