520 |a"During the Regional Director's Meeting of August 22nd and 23rd, 1966, which was held to plan the integration of employment and relocation under the direction of the Superintendent of Vocational Training and Special Services, the decision was made that a pilot relocation project, involving 20 Indian families from each region, would be initiated early in January 1967. The purpose of this project was to encourage Indian families to move to communities where they could be self-sustaining, as the pressure of increasing population was placing too great a strain on the Indian reserves and the area resources; to educate a human group to live in a different kind of community; to document the effectiveness or noneffectiveness of manpower programs in relation to the challenges of helping Indian workers and their families to move to employment in an urban society; and to test out various methods of relocation in order that a model be developed"--p. 1.
