"The Statistics Canada Survey of Employment, Payroll and Hours (SEPH) is interested in alternatives to produce estimates of total employment and other variables for small areas. This paper describes a study conducted to investigate the behaviour of a number of small area estimators of total employment. The SEPH employment data and the PD-7 remittance data from Revenue Canada, Taxation (auxiliary data) are used. The sample size dependent and ratio synthetic estimators are compared to the traditional expansion and post-stratified estimators by evaluating their performance at an aggregate level. Results are discussed and recommendations for further study are given"--Abstract.
