"The Capital Expenditures Section conducted a special survey to evaluate the financial involvement of most business and social organizations in Canada in their efforts to reduce or eliminate pollutants and wastes emitted to the environment. This financial involvement is measured both in terms of capital and operating expenditures on retrofit facilities and equipment specifically installed for the purpose of abating or controlling pollutants. The Pollution Abatement and Control (PAC) survey, the first comprehensive survey conducted by Statistics Canada on this matter, also included questions on the type of retrofit equipment purchased and the sales and savings made from PAC recovered materials. A response rate of 76% was achieved"--Executive Summary.
