"In his opening remarks to the Conference, Mr. Battle welcomed particularly the new members who had joined the Branch in the past year and introduced them to the Conference as a whole. He then reaffirmed the general aim and objectives of the Branch, namely, to assist the Indian people to advance socially, economically, culturally and politically and expressed the hope that with modifications as time progresses these general objectives will be accepted by Indians and other Canadians."--Address, p.
