520 |a"Fifty per cent methane-air mixtures were prepared in a cubical case containing a cylinder which was divided in half by a joint at a right angle to the longitudinal axis. The gap, joint width and internal volume were varied to determine their effects on the diffusion rate of the external mixture into the cylinder. The application of grease on the gap surface in sufficient quantities stopped the diffusion process, and the effects on the grease seal of internal pressures simulating pressure changes due to thermal cycling of electrical equipment, were briefly studied. The results showed that the seal was effective for pressures greater than those considered possible during thermal cycling"--Summary, p. [1].
