5203 |a“The construction details of a high-pressure fluid-catalyst pilot-plant are described in this report. This versatile unit will be used to study a variety of fluid-bed reaction schemes (cracking, hydrofining…) for the beneficiation of crude oils and bitumens. Of side-by-side configuration, the plant can operate from 15 to 1500 psi at up to 1200°F. The charge oil rate can be varied from 0.08 to 1.75 I mp gph. The oil reacts in the presence of a continuously regenerated recirculating catalyst flow of 7 to 25 lb per hour from a 6-lb inventory. An alternate once- through catalyst system circulates 32 lb of catalyst through the reactor from pressure storage vessels. The ancillary equipment--connecting lines, heaters, safety equipment, supports, and insulation--is also described"--Abstract, p. i.
