520 |a"Our purpose for participating in the Manitoba Writing Assessment is the same as it was for participating in the Reading and Mathematics Assessments, in order to establish the academic proficiency of the students in comparison to the Provincial Schools. We have already added staff to assist teachers to address the identified specific weaknesses. This, the second Writing Assessment, was administered in May 1982. The manuals for Grades 3, 6, 9 and 12 contained detailed explanations for the administration and marking procedures. Two teachers in each school were required to give a General Impression Mark (GIM) for each of the written selections. In Grades 3, 6 and 9 there were two selections written by each student. In Grade 12 there was only one written selection required"--Introduction, p. 1.
