The purpose of a SOPR is to report to Canadians on the state of a national park with respect to its Aboriginal Perspectives, Ecological Integrity (EI), Cultural Resources, and Connection to Place. In addition, SOPRs provide an evaluation of park management actions since the last Management Plan, the condition of its information base, and an assessment of key issues. SOPRs also provide an essential adaptive management element by which key information is brought together, analyzed, and interpreted so that it can be applied to the planning and management of national parks. As such, SOPRs are a required component of Parks Canada’s park management planning guideline (2008) and must be updated every 5 years"--Exec. summary, p. 4. |
