"This guide lists and describes the major collections of archival documents and other records relating to native people (Indians, Métis, Inuit, and aboriginal peoples outside Canada) in three of the most important repositories in Ottawa. It covers not only documentary sources but also films, sound recordings, machine-readable material, rare printed items, and artifacts held at the Public Archives of Canada, the National Library of Canada, and the National Museum of Man. In the Appendices, other significant collections in Ottawa are listed in brief, as are published versions of some of the documents described in the body of the guide. A chronology of native history is provided in Appendix 3 to place the major collections in historical context"--The purpose of this guide, p. 1.
