Evaluation of window guards for resistance to forced entry / prepared for the Project Implementation Division, Policy Development and Research Sector, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation by Forintek...: NH17-162/1983E-PDF
"A total of nineteen pairs of basement window guards were evaluated during the course of the study. The test data indicated that 8 of the 13 commercial guards evaluated, reached the point of failure, at loads of 4.4 kN (1000 lbs) or less. The data also showed that the home-made guard, built with water pipes, was more resistant to forcible entry, than 69% (9) of the commercial guards tested, while the RCMP window guards generally proved to be the most resistant guards. The study also confirmed the need to conduct additional testing on fasteners, as well as to determine the resistance of the guards and various types of padlocks, to cutting or sawing."--Exec.
