As young people are going through the education system, they must be provided with opportunities to learn about various careers. Careers, especially those relating to work on Aboriginal matters, should be encouraged among First Nations students. As First Nations people move towards self-government, there is a definite need of educated and qualified Aboriginal people. It is important for schools attended by First Nations students to promote careers week which focus upon First Nations related employment opportunities. Therefore, properly planned careers weeks by local schools play an important role in assisting First Nations pursue their goals of self sufficiency. As First Nations people become educated and take up various careers, they as individuals will become self reliant. As more and more First Nations people become self reliant, local Aboriginal communities will become more independent"--p. 3.
