“Today's children have a better chance of living longer than their parents. The improvement in housing and sanitation, advances in medical and health care have influenced this fortuitous situation. In addition there is increased public awareness and sensitivity to factors which influence health, such as style of life. This report illustrates pictorially and graphically these interesting trends. But it also presents the actual situation relative to life and health. It answers a multitude of statistical questions on the many aspects of health, illnesses requiring hospitalization, expectation of life, births, marriages, deaths, the cost of health, physical fitness and lifestyle"--Preface, p.
