5200 |a"As a contribution to the Canada Climate Program, a major research effort was undertaken to examine the long-terrn heat balance for the lower Great Lakes (Sawchuk and Scherlzer, 1988). A new model for evaluating the radiation and surface energy balance components for Lake Ontario and Lake Erie was developed. Improvements included the evaluation of solar radiation from a true radiative transfer model that treats multiple scattering effects explicitly and the evaluation of incoming longwave radiation that incorporated effects of aerosols and clouds. The model derived lake evaporation from a mass transfer formulation that includes dependency on wind speed and atmospheric stability. ... This report provides graphical representations of the primary radiative and turbulent exchanges and selected meteorological/limnological components at the daily time scale (1950-1997) for Lake Erie (central basin)"--Abstract, p. i.
