“This reference paper presents the final results from a family living expenditure survey conducted in 1948 and 1949. It provides a factual record of post-war living expenditure patterns for the year ending August 1948 and additional detail regarding food expenditures in 1948 and 1949. Interest in living expenditure patterns increased greatly during the war years when measurements of change in consumer price levels were watched very closely. During this time, the uses of national records of income and expenditure also increased. The 1948-1949 survey of family living expenditures followed almost exactly ten years after the first major Canadian survey of this kind”--Preface, p. [1].
