Ice freeze-up and breakup observations in the Upper Grand River : 1982-83 observations / by J. Wong and S. Beltaos.: En13-5/85-12E-PDF

"The third year's ice observations on the Upper Grand River are described and interpreted. The winter was mild, and a "mature" breakup was observed. Breakup initiation data for the Marsville gauge site are consistent with earlier findings on other rivers. However, this is not the case for the other two gauges, Upper Belwood and west Montrose. A possible cause of this discrepancy is the different manner of ice breakup and removal at these locations. Data from the freeze up process at Upper Belwood and west Montrose are analyzed and compared with the theory of equilibrium floating ice jams. The results are consistent with earlier findings on breakup jams but more data are needed before conclusions can be made"--Abstract, p. i.
