5203 |a"The estimation of forces on pipelines lying on the seabed through the use of drag and inertia coefficients in the Morison equation, and the lift coefficient, has been fraught with difficulties over the years. More recently, experimental and analysis methods, including the use of modern computers, not available to the earlier workers, has resulted in more consistent and reliable estimates of the coefficients. The coefficients are clearly dependent on Keulegan Carpenter number, Reynolds number (or a frequency parameter), and pipe roughness. This report reviews the analysis approaches used in the past and the results obtained. The dependency of the coefficients on some variables has not been explored in detail, especially irregular waves pipe roughness, and the effect of a mobile bed. The effect of locating a pipe in a trench has not been addressed"--Abstract, p. i.
