520 | |a"Following the categorization of substances on the Domestic Substances List (DSL), which was completed in 2006, approximately 4300 of the 23 000 substances on the DSL were identified for assessment. Among these substances, 1550 remain to be addressed under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). From this group, 14 substances were identified as priorities for assessment as they met categorization criteria under subsection 73(1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), and they are being evaluated through a hazard-based approach, as detailed in this Science Approach Document (SciAD). The purpose of this SciAD is to provide stakeholders and the public with the opportunity to review and comment on this approach and the results of its application to 14 priority substances prior to publication of screening assessments under section 74 of the CEPA.
