520 |a"Unlike the majority of the rest of Canada, most of land in British Columbia has never been covered by treaties or agreements with Indians. Over recent decades, over 20 Indian groups have filed comprehensive land claims with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, to lay claim to land historically occupied by their ancestors prior to white settlement. The Department of Indian and Northern Affairs is developing strategies to resolve these comprehensive land claims in British Columbia. In order to understand prevailing opinions to land claims in British Columbia, on which to base strategies and communication programs, a three stage research program has been completed. This report provides the findings of the Opinion Leader poll component"--Introduction, p. 1.
