"The waters off Newfoundland are known to be the principal wintering area of Thick-billed murres (Uria lomvia) in the Western Atlantic (Tuck 1961, Gaston 1980). Hunting is legal during September to March inclusive, and between 250 000 and 500 000 murres, including sorne Common Murres (U. aalge) - both are referred to as "turrs" in Newfoundland - are believed to be shot annually"--Introd.
