An evaluation of the Greater Vancouver region in the context of sustainable development / Dianna Colnett.: En107-3/51-1990E-PDF

"This discussion paper examines some institutional responses to issues related to the maintenance of agricultural areas, waste management, estuary management, and land use planning. Before the experience of Greater Vancouver is detailed, the concept of sustainable development is explored and criteria for sustainable urban areas are developed. Then the institutional arrangements relevant to the case study are explained. A brief chronoiogical summary of various institutional initiatives is given to indicate how environmental quality is being managed. This summary is followed by an evaluation of the progress by the region towards sustainable development. The paper concludes with some observations about the problems of transforming our cities into sustainable urban regions"--Preface, p. [1].
