5203 |a"Field surveys were conducted in 2015 and 2016 at four sites on the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia to determine fish diversity and species-specific fish density and size in rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) beds and associated bare habitats. Fish assemblages were sampled biweekly during the day between May and September using visual snorkel transects. Data were calibrated to account for limitations to visual detection in the complex rockweed habitats using estimates of fish density from fyke nets. This study provides new data that allows estimation of fisheries production by the DFO Fisheries Protection Program, and in general contributes to enhancing our understanding of nearshore ecosystem functioning"--Abstract, p. iv.
