This technical memorandum aims to present and assess Russian policies and views related to Afghanistan, while paying particular attention to Russian attitudes towards the ongoing NATO mission. An understanding of Russian involvement in and motives behind Moscow’s current policy towards Afghanistan might assist policymakers and military planners in their responses to this regional conflict.
