"The Indian and Eskimo population, an important part of the total population in the North, is especially significant in the Northwest Territories. Where throughout Canada, Indians and Eskimos make up only about one per cent of the total population, in the Northwest Territories the majority of the population is either Eskimo (about 31.6%), or Indian (about 18.4%)"--Area and population, p. 1.
