Four assessment categories are identified representing types of information needed to properly assess the impacts of log handling in estuaries: the value of estuaries to log handling; log-handling activities and their primary physical and chemical impacts; the importance of estuaries to salmon; and the direct and indirect impacts of log handling on salmon and salmon habitats. Common to all categories is a lack of the quantified information needed for optimum resource allocation decisions. Generating this type of information is a desirable management action"--Abstract.
