"In recent years, a number of Canadian farmers have expressed concerns about the purchase of farmland by financial institutions, investment funds and foreign multinationals. These concerns were warranted by the apparent impact of these acquisitions on farmland values in Canada. In response to their concerns, the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry (the Committee) was authorized to study the acquisition of farmland in Canada and its potential repercussions on the farming sector"--Introd., p. 9.
