"The Canada Research Chairs Program was created in response to a need to retain our talented graduates and to attract researchers to academic career, given the importance of university research to Canada's innovation agenda. ... In the course of the first three cycles, the Canada Research Chairs Secretariat observed that women appeared to be nominated for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Chairs in lower proportions than men and in lower proportions than might be expected from their representation among Canadian university faculty. Consequently they requested an analysis of gender issues around the Program. This analysis includes the nominations for the eight cycles for which nominations have been received and the results for the seven cycles completed, so far"--Exec. summary, p. 4.
