520 |a"Forest soils represent a major carbon pool across the globe. Forest management and climate change can alter the size of this carbon pool, but the effects of these alterations remain misunderstood and difficult to foresee. With that in mind, researchers with the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) have developed a new experimental set-up. The goal is to document the effect of variations in the quantity and sources of vegetation biomass on the dynamics of organic matter in soils, including carbon sequestration and the availability of nutrients for plants. More specifically, this experimental set-up will help clarify questions concerning the sustainability of forest biomass harvesting for energy purposes"--P. [1].
