Bedrock geochemistry of the central Thelon tectonic zone, Nunavut / J.B. Whalen … [et al.].: M183-2/8234E-PDF
“The Chantrey-Thelon activity was initiated to help attract mineral exploration to this underexplored region of Nunavut by defining its tectonic evolution and crustal architecture. This report presents the first bedrock geochemical data for plutonic and volcanic rocks of the Thelon tectonic zone. The results strongly point to plutonic rock genesis at ca. 2.0 Ga in a convergent plate tectonic setting involving either subduction or slab failure or both. A syn-collisional origin is indicated for ca. 1.9 Ga leucogranites that form a fundamental boundary on the western margin of Mesoarchean crust of the Rae craton. Comparison with published geochemical data for the Taltson magmatic zone south of the MacDonald fault call into question its long-standing correlation with the Thelon tectonic zone”--Provided by publisher.
