The expedition had 19 science participants and the study area was the outer continental slope south of Banquereau. The primary objective of CCGS Hudson expedition 2016-011 Phase 1 was to improve our understanding of geological processes offshore Nova Scotia. Specifically, this expedition: carried out high-resolution seismic surveys perpendicular to the outer slope; collected sediment cores to confirm the nature of the sediments imaged by seismic surveys; will allow us to measure the recurrence of sediment transport events during the late-Quaternary along deep-water submarine channels; will allow us to evaluate the recurrence rates of large submarine landslides to evaluate their significance in terms of geohazards; and assess the stability of Nova Scotia’s outer slope”--Background and objectives, p. 7. |
