520 | |a"The primary purpose of this document is to recommend dosimetric and operational quantities, in terms of generic criteria and Operational Intervention Levels (OIL), to assist emergency response authorities when developing protection strategies for nuclear emergencies. Generic criteria and OILs are tools to support planning and implementation. Generic criteria are expressed as dose levels over a specified time interval which, when exceeded, signal that protective actions and associated response actions, such as notification, are warranted. OILs are used post-release to prompt the implementation of protective actions based on monitoring results. The generic criteria and OILs recommended in this document support the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) requirement to develop protection strategies for nuclear emergencies that are justified and optimized on the basis of identified hazards and potential consequences (Requirement 5, IAEA 2015a). The requirement for protection strategies is also reflected in CSA N1600-16, General requirements for nuclear emergency management programs, published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA 2016)"--Introd., p. 1. |
