"A description of the various protocols which allow for the interoperation of various networked devices is outlined. The challenges associated with implementing a mobile ad hoc networking protocol on a smartphone are presented. Conceptually, “packet-injection” and “IP-spoofing” capabilities provide the capabilities required to implement ad-hoc networking using smartphones. Further analysis of the capabilities and relative merits of current market offerings are then presented in order to provide a road-map for a later proof of concept implementation"--Abstract, p. i.
