"A flora survey for Boot Island National Wildlife Area was conducted in September of 2004. During the survey, 109 species of plants were recorded within this small, 144 ha. protected area (85% salt marsh, 10% old field and 5% forest). Voucher specimens were deposited in the E. C. Smith Herbarium (ACAD), Irving Biodiversity Collection, K. C. Irving Environmental Science Centre, Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Two rare species were recorded; Iva frutescens - 'Big-leaf Marsh-elder' (828E) and Suadeda calceoliformis - 'American Sea-blite' (8283) (Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre ranks in brackets). Boot Island has a long history of human use, such that a large percentage of exotic or non-native plants were recorded; primarily within the upland areas and the bank/cliff on the east side of the island"--Abstract, p. i.
